Jökulsárlón is a deep glacial lagoon, bordering the Vatnajökull National Park in southeastern Iceland.
My 10-day journey around Iceland in September 2022 followed the 821 mile long Route 1 Ring Road and included several detours along the way. In total I covered over 1000 miles of remote and sparsely populated areas.
Dramatic landscape with volcanoes, geysers, hot springs and lava fields. Massive glaciers are protected in Vatnajökull and Snæfellsjökull national parks.
Iceland has over 10,000 waterfalls, several active volcanos, vast glacial areas, deep fjords, geothermal regions and Northern Lights! - just to mention a few statistics. This adventure gave me the opportunity to see some of the spectacular sights and experience the variable climate from mild sunny days to wind, rain, hurricane force winds and snow.
This is a collection of just a few of those unforgettable experiences.
